About Us - Gastrolab

Gastrolab is Australia’s largest provider of diagnostic hydrogen/methane breath testing, with clinics in VIC, NSW, ACT, WA, QLD and SA.

Gastrolab was founded in 2009 to provide a quality, trusted and accessible service to IBS patients seeking answers to their functional gut symptoms.

In 2014, Gastrolab became a nationally coordinated network working through major state-based NATA accredited laboratories.

Gastrolab - Our Difference

  • We use gold standard laboratory technology, follow best practice guidelines, participate in external quality assurance programs, and follow internal rigorous quality control standards. All results are reviewed by the supervising pathologist.
  • We also assist Monash University in recruiting patients for certain research studies.

Dr Paul Froomes - Co-Founder

Dr Paul Froomes - Co-Founder

Dr Froomes is a senior gastroenterologist at The Northern Hospital, a senior visiting hepatologist at The Austin Hospital, and consultant to the Melbourne Institute of Obesity Surgery.

He graduated from Monash University medical school and undertook gastroenterology training at the Austin Hospital. Following his specialist training he completed his MD in hepatology and has undergone further study in advanced endoscopic techniques in NSW and GI physiology in SA. Dr Froomes has an interest in endoscopy, irritable bowel syndrome and functional gut disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic liver disease, and obesity. He has published papers in international peer reviewed medical journals and is actively involved in capsule endoscopy research.

Dr Adam Testro - Co-Founder

Dr Adam Testro - Co-Founder

Dr Testro is a staff specialist gastroenterologist at Austin Health.

He graduated from the University of Melbourne medical school and undertook gastroenterology training at the Austin Hospital. Following his specialist training he completed a PhD in liver transplantation, after which he undertook further training in intestinal failure and intestinal transplantation at the world renowned University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, USA. He now leads the Australian Intestinal Failure, Rehabilitation and Transplant service based at the Austin Hospital, the only centre in Australia currently undertaking intestinal transplantation.

Dr Testro regularly presents his research findings at national and international conferences, and has numerous publications.

Jorge Tchongue - Business Development Manager

Jorge Tchongue -  Business Development Manager

Jorge graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry (Honours), and was as a senior medical scientist and laboratory manager in the Department of Medicine (Monash University), and Department of Gastroenterology (Monash Health), based at Monash Medical Centre. He will complete his executive MBA studies from Monash University in 2016.

Jorge's research into mechanisms of liver fibrosis resulted in numerous publications and contributed to successful competitive grant funding by NHMRC. As laboratory manager, Jorge managed the urea breath test and hydrogen/methane breath test service provided by Monash Health to inpatients, outpatients, and external pathology laboratories.

Jorge is dedicated to top quality patient care and customer service, and draws upon his considerable experience in all facets of the organisation to answer any questions our referrers or patients may have. As the primary liaison with our referrers in Victoria, Jorge acts as a conduit to listen to health practitioners, and to inform them of latest developments in the field in a professional and purposeful manner. Jorge considers the cornerstones of good management as being hard work, effective communication, respect, integrity and a quality driven outlook.
