This test helps detect Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) by measuring gases produced after drinking a glucose solution.

The Glucose Breath Test checks for proximal SIBO, bacterial overgrowth in the upper small intestine. Because glucose is absorbed quickly, any early rise in breath gases shows bacteria are fermenting it too soon, indicating overgrowth in the proximal small bowel.
